Daily Petrol/Diesel Price & Highway Trip Cost Calculator 2026-27

Four of us drove from Guwahati to Kaziranga last winter, and the fuel cost only came up as a topic once we were already back and splitting the bill. Nobody had actually worked it out beforehand — we just filled the tank, drove, and argued a little at the end about who owed what, because two people remembered contributing more at the pump than the receipt showed. It would have taken thirty seconds to work out per-head cost before we even left.

That’s really what this calculator is for — not just knowing the fuel price, but knowing what a specific trip on a specific vehicle actually costs, split the way your group is actually splitting it.

Today’s fuel rates in Assam

Fuel prices in Assam aren’t flat across the state — Guwahati and Silchar run slightly different rates, and prices move daily with the broader market.

City / Region Petrol (₹/Litre) Diesel (₹/Litre)
Guwahati (Kamrup Metro) ₹98.20 ₹88.50
Silchar (Barak Valley) ₹98.90 ₹89.20

Silchar runs a little higher on both fuels. That’s not a Barak Valley markup for the sake of it — it comes down to inland transportation and freight charges getting fuel from Guwahati’s supply depots across to Barak Valley.

These rates change with the market, sometimes daily, so treat the numbers above as a snapshot rather than something fixed for the year.

Popular highway distances in Assam

  • Guwahati to Tezpur — ~180 km (NH-27)
  • Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park — ~220 km (NH-27)
  • Guwahati to Jorhat — ~300 km (NH-27)
  • Guwahati to Silchar — ~310 km (NH-6 / East-West Corridor)
  • Guwahati to Dibrugarh — ~440 km (NH-27 & NH-15)

How the calculation works

Three numbers decide your trip cost: distance, your vehicle’s mileage, and the fuel rate. Divide distance by mileage to get liters needed, multiply by the rate to get total cost, then divide by however many people are sharing.

  1. Liters needed = Trip distance ÷ Vehicle mileage
  2. Total cost = Liters needed × Fuel rate per liter
  3. Cost per person = Total cost ÷ Number of passengers

Worked example — Guwahati to Jorhat, diesel car, shared 4 ways

Distance: 300 km
Vehicle mileage: 18 km/L
Liters needed: 300 ÷ 18 ≈ 16.67 L
Fuel rate: ₹88.50/L (Guwahati diesel)
Total cost: 16.67 × ₹88.50 ≈ ₹1,475
Per person (4 sharing): ₹1,475 ÷ 4 ≈ ₹369

Now a solo bike trip on the longer route:

Worked example — Guwahati to Dibrugarh, petrol bike, solo

Distance: 440 km
Vehicle mileage: 45 km/L
Liters needed: 440 ÷ 45 ≈ 9.78 L
Fuel rate: ₹98.20/L (Guwahati petrol)
Total cost: 9.78 × ₹98.20 ≈ ₹960

If we’d done that Kaziranga trip math beforehand — 220 km, 15 km/L, four of us sharing — the fuel bill would have worked out to around ₹1,441 total, or about ₹360 each. Nobody would have had to remember who paid what at the pump.

How to Use the Calculator

Step 1. Select your fuel type and city — Petrol or Diesel, Guwahati or Silchar.

Step 2. Enter your total trip distance in kilometers.

Step 3. Enter your vehicle’s average mileage in km/L.
Step 4. Enter the number of passengers sharing the expense.

Step 5. Click “Calculate Trip Fuel Cost” to see total liters, total expense, and per-person share instantly.

Some things people ask us often

What is the current petrol and diesel price in Guwahati, Assam?

Petrol is around ₹98.20 per litre and diesel around ₹88.50 per litre, though this shifts with daily market changes.

How much fuel is needed for a Guwahati to Kaziranga trip by car?

For a 220 km trip at 15 km/L, that’s about 14.67 liters of petrol, costing roughly ₹1,441 at Guwahati rates.

Why are fuel prices slightly higher in Silchar compared to Guwahati?

Silchar’s fuel comes via inland transport from Guwahati’s supply depots, and that freight cost gets added into the pump price.

We’re taking two bikes and a car on the same Dibrugarh trip — should we calculate fuel separately for each vehicle, or just average it out?

Separately, and it’s worth doing even if it feels like extra math. A bike doing 45 km/L and a car doing 15 km/L on the same 440 km route land on very different fuel bills — averaging them out tends to shortchange whoever’s on the bike and overcharge whoever’s driving the car. Run the calculator once per vehicle, then decide how the group wants to pool or split the total.

How does vehicle mileage affect long highway trips in Assam?

Mileage has an outsized effect over long distances. A car giving 18 km/L versus one giving 12 km/L on the same 350 km trip works out to roughly ₹500 less in fuel for the more efficient vehicle.

Is this an official fuel price source?

No. Fuel rates here are a reference snapshot for the calculation, not a live feed. Pump prices are set by oil marketing companies and revised daily, so for the exact rate on a given day, checking directly with a fuel retailer is more reliable than any calculator, including this one.

For the live, daily-updated fuel price rather than a snapshot:

If you’re planning a long highway run and fuel cost actually matters to your budget, it’s worth checking the day-of rate rather than relying on a number from a few weeks back — a few rupees per litre adds up fast over 300-plus kilometers.
