The home charging figure isn’t one fixed number for everyone, APDCL bills domestic electricity on a telescopic slab system based on your sanctioned load. Domestic-A connections (under 5 kW) start as low as ₹4.25/unit for the first 120 units, climbing to ₹6.30 and then ₹8.19 as usage rises, while Domestic-B connections (above 5 kW) start higher, around ₹6.75/unit. Charging an EV regularly adds enough monthly units that it can push you into a higher slab, so your real home charging cost depends on where your total household usage lands, not just the sticker rate.
How the calculation works
- Full Charge Cost = Battery Capacity (kWh) × Rate per kWh
- Running Cost per Km = Full Charge Cost ÷ Real-World Range (km)
- Compare against Petrol Cost per Km = Fuel Price per Litre ÷ Vehicle Mileage (km/L)
